Drunk
Drunk is a popular science-based television series for RTÉ Two that will explore what happens to us when we drink. The series will put some of our commonly held perceptions about alcohol under the microscope.
In a controlled studio environment volunteers will be invited to drink, and possibly get drunk, in front of the cameras. While under the influence of alcohol, these volunteers will take on a range of specially designed tasks and challenges which will help the programme explore, explain and illustrate the effect of drinking on the body and mind.
The programme will also observe ordinary people drinking in real life situations where cameras will follow people in a social setting, filming them before, during and after drinking.
In Episode One we look at the phenomenon known as Beer Goggles. We look at alcohol as a social – and anti social – lubricant. And we look at the effects of drinking on our brain function and how that relates to motor skills, reaction time and balance – with some surprising results.
We also get a slice of our drinking culture by observing a group of friends on a night out in Wexford town to celebrate a birthday.
The series is presented by Eoghan McDermott with expert insight provided by Consultant Heptologist Dr. Stephen Stewart.
